Exciting news: Malden will now be home to our first-ever individual shelter! I am so incredibly grateful for the tremendous work Housing Families Inc. is doing here in Malden, and proud to have played a role in securing the funding to ensure we support each and every member of our community during this difficult time.
From the Housing Families Inc. Facebook Page:
"Housing Families is excited to announce that we are opening the first-ever individual shelter in Malden this month! Malden and its neighboring cities have long lacked an individual shelter, and the local need has been exacerbated by the pandemic. We are excited to expand the reach of our services to include individuals to meet this increased need.
This shelter project was organized and coordinated by the Malden Redevelopment Authority along with Housing Families, Eliot Community Human Services, the Malden's Warming Center, Action for Boston Community Development Malden mobile outreach team, Massachusetts Housing & Shelter Alliance (MHSA), and Bread of Life, with active support from the City of Malden (Official) and Metro North Housing Corp. HFI also worked with Senator Jason Lewis and State Representative Paul Donato, Steve Ultrino for State Representative, and State Representative Kate Lipper-Garabedian to secure funding through the state Department of Housing and Community Development. The shelter is a community effort, and a demonstration of our community’s commitment to one another.
